Singer-songwriter Nia Smith says the at-home listening experience has been central to her creative process, according to Rolling Stone. The London native first gained wider attention during the early months of the COVID-19 lockdown, when she recorded and shared slowed-down covers on TikTok from home.
Smith later began releasing original songs, which were quickly embraced by fans and music industry listeners. Her first EP, Give Up the Fear, arrived in 2024, and her second release, Payback Is a Dog, is now streaming.
In the Rolling Stone feature, Smith says she still relies on home listening to hear the full range of her music, including the highs, lows, bass, and sub. She also described using Sonos speakers to bring friends together for listening parties at her South London home.
Smith recently played her new single “High” for friends. She said the song reflects her growth as an artist and explores “growing in and out of” things, including love, places, and people.
Smith added that she hopes listeners feel comforted and understood by her music, and that immersive sound helps them fully connect with it.
