More than 20 years after the original comedy hit theaters, talk of a sequel to John Tucker Must Die is still alive, according to E! News. Jesse Metcalfe, who played the title character, and Arielle Kebbel, who played Carrie, have both said they would be open to revisiting the film.
Kebbel said at a March 2024 panel at Epic Cons Chicago that a script exists and includes the original cast. Metcalfe said he had not read it yet, but added that it sounded amazing and that he would love to be involved. Sophia Bush also said she was ready to go.
Metcalfe joked that he would be ready to bring back one of the movie’s most memorable scenes. He also said he would be happy to return as an older version of John Tucker, a character he said was reckless in how he treated the four young women in the film.
But the project has not moved ahead yet. Kebbel said on a February episode of Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Off the Vine podcast that the 2023 WGA strike affected the studio’s plans and the sequel was shelved after the strike, though she said that does not mean it is permanently cancelled.
E! News also noted that the cast still remembers the original film fondly, including the close friendships formed on set and a prank Brittany Snow once described involving printed shirtless photos of Metcalfe placed around production.
