Zion Foster Says He’s Not Abandoning His Twins After Backlash

Zion Foster is clarifying comments in the wake of backlash over a teaser for his upcoming song about fatherhood. After some listeners accused him of abandoning his family, the 26-year-old said that was never his message, according to E! News.

Foster shares 14-month-old twins Ocean Jade and Story Monroe with Jesy Nelson. In the teaser posted July 15, he referenced the strain of coping with the girls’ spinal muscular atrophy Type 1 diagnosis, singing, “I’m out of my depth, I’m out of my mind, I’m drowning in pain.”

In an Instagram Story posted after the criticism, Foster said the lyrics were about the overwhelming reality of suddenly facing a rare and complex medical diagnosis. He said the reaction to his words had been painful because, in his view, the accusations were false.

Foster also said he remains fully committed to his daughters and stressed that the end of his relationship with Nelson does not change his role as a father. Nelson previously told Daily Mail that their breakup was amicable and said their children remained their top priority.

Nelson is set to release a documentary, Jesy Nelson: Life Changing, on July 17 about her daughters’ condition.
