Vietnam-based yoga teacher breaks underwater pushup world record

A yoga teacher living in Vietnam has set a new Guinness World Record by doing 86 pushups underwater while holding a single breath, according to UPI Odd News.

Kamal Kaloi, 38, who is originally from India, said his training in calisthenics and breath control prepared him for the attempt, which took place at a pool in Ninh Binh in October 2025.

Kaloi had already made his mark in the record books before this effort. In 2020, he earned a Guinness World Record for the most consecutive yoga positions underwater, with 21.

Guinness World Records reviewed evidence of the underwater pushups and confirmed that Kaloi now holds the record for the most underwater push ups with a single breath, male.

Kaloi told Guinness World Records that seeing other people achieve records inspired him to keep challenging himself, and said yoga gave him the breath-holding experience he needed for the feat.
