Alexandra Zardoya is opening up about the death of her twin sister, Victoria Zardoya, following the 20-year-old’s fatal fall at the ruins of Fort Dade in Egmont Key, Florida, on July 24, according to E! News.
In an Instagram post on July 31, Alexandra wrote that she could not believe the loss was real and described Victoria as her “other half.” She said the two had been inseparable since before birth and that her sister was a light in her life and in the lives of others.
Alexandra said she has been in shock since the accident and shared that everything reminds her of Victoria. In her tribute, she said their bond was deeper than sharing a birthday or DNA, and that she hopes to honor her sister by living out her name every day.
She also remembered Victoria as intelligent, caring and empathetic, and said her decision to be an organ donor reflects who she was. Alexandra added that Victoria’s choice will give eight people a second chance at life.
According to E! News, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said its Marine Unit responded to reports that someone had fallen from a structure at Egmont Key at 6:08 p.m. on July 24. The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and later died from her injuries.
