Vetle Nærø improvised a solo piano set after airport lost his gear

Norwegian neo-classical composer Vetle Nærø was forced to change his planned performance after his synthesizers and other gear were lost at the airport, according to Billboard. Instead of an electronic set, he regrouped and played solo piano at the 2026 Bergtatt Festival.

The performance took place earlier this month at Dale Church in Luster, a venue that dates back to the first half of the 13th century. Nærø told Billboard that he had originally expected to bring a more electronic setup, but had to rearrange the concert when the equipment did not arrive.

He said the show still connected with the audience, and that the goal of creating calm and connection is why he makes music. Billboard reported that the 200 people in attendance were deeply moved by the performance.

The missing equipment has since been returned to its owner. Nærø, who was born in Oslo in 2000 and raised in Ålesund, is now working on his fifth studio album, which he expects to release in 2027.
