USMNT defender Tim Ream says fatherhood has played a big role in how he approaches leadership. Speaking with E! News at MLS All-Star Week, Ream said raising his three children has helped shape the way he serves as a captain.
Ream, who captained the U.S. team during the FIFA World Cup 2026, said he feels like he has learned a great deal as a parent that carries over to the locker room. He noted that many of the players he leads are close in age to his oldest child.
The Charlotte FC defender shares Aidan, 12, Theodore, 10, and Lilia, 7, with his wife, Kristen Sapienza. Ream said his kids have become enthusiastic supporters of the game, watching matches, tracking players, and talking through every goal and pass.
According to E! News, Ream tries to keep family life and soccer life separate, even though his children’s interest in the sport makes that harder as they get older. He also said he takes pride in having played at a high level for so long and in sharing that journey with his family.
Ream also reflected on the World Cup 2026 experience, saying there are plenty of memories, connections, and moments to remember even though the U.S. did not win the title.
