New York Knicks point guard Tyler Kolek is brushing off a viral moment from the team’s championship parade in New York City, according to E! News.
Kolek was seen in online videos being stopped by police during the June 18 celebration of the Knicks’ 2026 NBA Playoffs win. Speaking to USA Sports’ Renee Montgomery at the 2026 ESPYS on July 15, he said the situation was “pretty funny” and “all lighthearted.”
He explained that the parade rules likely led to the confusion, saying the team was technically not supposed to get off the floats. Kolek said officers may have seen him running by and thought he was someone who needed to be moved back into the crowd.
Kolek added that the same mixup happened two or three times, and one of the moments was recorded by his mother. He also said he was amused by hearing teammates react in the moment, wondering why the police did not realize who he was.
