Tyga is pushing back against criticism of his new album $tarface, after both Doja Cat and Pitchfork publicly took aim at the project, according to NME.
The rapper recently confirmed that he used AI as a tool on the album, which he described as a way to create certain sounds he wanted, such as ’80s-style synths and a guitar solo. He also said the production and vocals were made without AI.
Doja Cat, who has worked with Tyga before, called him a “penis for making an AI album” during a livestream on Wednesday, August 12. Pitchfork also gave $tarface a 0/10 review, calling it “smug and complacent and depressing.”
In response, Tyga told TMZ Live that he loves Doja Cat, though he added that he felt she had made a “demonic album” without saying which one he meant. He also brushed off Pitchfork’s review, saying he did not really know what the publication was and joking, “All I know is the devil uses a pitchfork.”
Tyga also said he wrote all of the songs himself and wanted to experiment with a different sound. He described $tarface as a separate artistic character with its own look and style.
