Skating icon Tony Hawk introduced Interpol onstage in San Diego on Saturday night, telling the crowd he does not plan to stop skating until the band stops touring, according to NME.
The moment happened during Interpol’s 2026 U.S. tour stop at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park on August 15. Hawk said he first discovered the band after the release of their debut album, Turn On the Bright Lights, in 2002.
Hawk also recalled seeing Interpol perform on Jay Leno in 2004, saying he watched them play “Slow Hands” while they watched him do “slow hand plants.” He told the audience that both he and the band had kept doing what they love over the years.
Interpol later shared video of Hawk’s introduction and thanked him for “riding with us.” Hawk replied in the comments with a joke about “slow handplants,” saying his wife thought it was lame but that he considers dad jokes “peak comedy.”
Interpol played another show in Las Vegas on Sunday, August 16, and are set to appear at Deftones’ Outbreak Fest in London on August 23, according to NME. The band is also preparing for a new album, This Mirror Weighs A Ton, due out August 28 via Partisan Records.
