Two separate traffic problems are affecting John Wayne Parkway in Maricopa this afternoon, according to InMaricopa.
A two-vehicle crash was reported around 4:08 p.m. on northbound John Wayne Parkway near Cobblestone Farms Drive. Police said one driver tried to change lanes at the last moment to turn into the shopping center near Freddy’s and struck a vehicle in the adjacent lane.
The driver of the other vehicle was treated for minor injuries and may be taken to the hospital, according to a police spokesperson. Northbound traffic was briefly restricted because of the crash.
About a half-mile south, the traffic signal at John Wayne Parkway and Smith-Enke Road is also out. The reason for the outage is not known, and officials said it is not related to the crash.
Officers are directing traffic while crews work to repair the signal, helping keep vehicles moving as southbound rush-hour traffic increases.
