Travis Barker says he told son Landon to pass on The Voice offer

Travis Barker says he advised his son Landon to turn down an offer to appear on The Voice. Speaking on The New York Times Popcast, the Blink-182 drummer said he told Landon, “Dude, you’re way too cool for that.”

Barker said he urged his son to think about the artists he looks up to, adding that if Kurt Cobain were his idol, he would not have done the show. He noted that his own appearances on American Idol were different because, as a drummer, he was not front and center in the same way as a singer would be.

The musician said his advice to Landon was to “stay on your own trajectory.” Barker added that he has been hearing the songs his son is making in the studio and said there is “no rush.”

During the same interview, Barker said Blink-182 are working on a new album and that the band is doing it this year. He also said he is starting other producing projects. Barker’s documentary Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear is set to stream on Hulu and Disney+ on August 13.

Landon has previously said his father gives him direct feedback on his music, including on his 2023 debut single “Friends With My Ex,” which Travis helped co-produce.
