John Douglas, the guitarist and vocalist for Scottish indie rock band Trashcan Sinatras, has died at age 63, according to the band’s social media announcement.
In a statement, Francis Reader, Paul Livingston, Stephen Douglas and Davy Hughes said Douglas died peacefully in the early hours of Monday, August 3, 2026, after a brief illness and was surrounded by loved ones.
Trashcan Sinatras formed in 1986 in Irvine, Scotland. Douglas joined the band soon after its formation alongside his brother, Stephen Douglas, and Livingston, and went on to play on all seven of the group’s studio albums.
His death comes four days after the release of Ever the Optimist, the band’s latest album and its first full-length record in 10 years. Douglas also released his debut solo album in 2024.
