Tracy Spiridakos learned horseback riding for her new role in Anna Pigeon

Tracy Spiridakos says she had to learn a few new skills to step into the lead role in Anna Pigeon, the new USA Network series based on Nevada Barr’s crime novels.

Speaking at the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Aug. 5, Spiridakos told E! News that horseback riding was one of the first things she needed to master for the part. She also said she researched survival skills to better portray a park ranger.

Spiridakos added that her years playing a Chicago police officer on Chicago P.D. did not directly prepare her for this character. In fact, she said she had to unlearn some habits from that role because Anna Pigeon approaches situations differently.

The actress also said filming in Canada was a highlight of the experience. According to E! News, she described the scenery as breathtaking and said nature feels like its own character in the series. Her castmate Paulina Alexis also said she learned horseback riding for the first time in a TV role and had to practice holding a gun properly.
