Trace Adkins says he has forgiven his second wife, Julie Curtis, after she shot him during a 1994 argument and nearly killed him. He discussed the incident on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast, which was posted Tuesday, July 28, according to Billboard.
Adkins joked that the shooting “took it a little far” and said it was “totally uncalled for.” He said he does not think Curtis intended to seriously harm him, explaining that he had never seen her use a gun before and did not believe she understood what would happen when she pulled the trigger.
He recalled that the bullet went through his body and that doctors later told him he survived in part because Curtis was so close to him when she fired. Adkins said he needed emergency trauma surgery after the shooting and later underwent open-heart surgery six months later when his heart did not heal properly.
Despite the severity of the attack, Adkins said he chose not to press charges and still does not hold ill will toward Curtis. He said he believes she thought he was indestructible and did not mean to do it.
Adkins is now married to Canadian actress Victoria Pratt, whom he wed in 2019. According to Billboard, he has been married four times and has five daughters.
