Tom Selleck says Blue Bloods cast took a 25% pay cut before cancellation

Tom Selleck says the cast of Blue Bloods tried to do what they could to keep the series alive before it was canceled. In a live taping of Ted Danson’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, published July 28, Selleck said the actors had agreed to lower pay in an effort to continue the show.

According to Selleck, the group had already accepted a 25% salary cut by the final year of the series. He said everyone wanted to return and believed the show was ending too soon.

Selleck said the cancellation was especially frustrating because Blue Bloods remained a strong performer even in its later years. He noted that in the show’s 15th year, it ranked sixth among the top 100 broadcast TV programs.

Despite his disappointment, Selleck spoke warmly about the experience of working on the series. He contrasted it with productions that become difficult behind the scenes, saying Blue Bloods was not like that and that the cast enjoyed working together for years.
