Townies have released a new song titled “Wednesday” in response to Wednesday’s track “Townies,” according to NME. The single arrived last Wednesday, August 12, via Brain Synthesizer.
The band first hinted at the project around the release of Wednesday’s album “Bleeds” last September. At the time, they posted, “Wait til they hear Wednesday by Townies.”
Townies is a Boston-formed, Los Angeles-based emo band made up of Tom Lynch, Chris Magnani and Nolan Melia. Their new song leans into an intense emo sound, with heavy guitar work and a melodic arc that builds into a noisy finish.
A video for “Wednesday,” directed by Zach Miller, has also been released. Wednesday’s “Townies” appeared on NME’s list of the best songs of 2025, and was written by frontwoman Karly Hartzman about a friend who faced sexual rumors and humiliation as a teenager.
