Angine De Poitrine’s Khn has spoken out about the value of music theory, saying musicians should not shy away from the terminology that comes with it, according to NME.
In a new interview with Guitar World, the Quebec duo’s guitarist said he thinks in terms of scales and intervals while performing, but said that knowledge does not force him to play mechanically or follow rules without creativity.
Khn also argued that musicians should understand the language used to describe chords, melodies, intervals and rhythm. He said terminology matters to him and suggested that refusing to learn the names of things makes no sense.
Angine De Poitrine have emerged as one of 2026’s surprise breakthrough acts. The duo released their second album, Vol. II, in April after a viral KEXP session aired in February, and are currently touring North America.
