Andrew Garfield is bringing a message of imagination and connection to the screen in The Magic Faraway Tree, a fantasy adventure based on Enid Blyton’s children’s books. The film opens in U.S. theaters on Friday.
In the story, a family moves to the countryside after a major change in their lives, and the children discover the magical Faraway Tree and its shifting worlds. That sets off a series of fantastical adventures.
Garfield said the project appealed to him because of its focus on nature, community and the need to step away from constant technology. According to ABC News, he said people are looking for reconnection with the earth and with one another.
The actor said he was drawn to Simon Farnaby’s screenplay for its whimsy, heart and sense of joy. Garfield also said he enjoys stories about underdogs and is interested in projects that remind him of the bonds people share with each other and with nature.
