Tom Holland says he is feeling both excited and nervous as he prepares to play Fred Astaire in an upcoming biopic, according to E! News. The actor shared the update during a July 20 interview on Good Morning America.
Holland said he is about to head back into dance rehearsals once he wraps his current press commitments for The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He explained that he welcomes difficult roles, but that taking on Astaire has brought “absolute dread” because he wants to honor the iconic performer.
The Spider-Man star also said he hopes to perform the dancing himself rather than use doubles. He told GMA’s George Stephanopoulos that he wants to shoot the dance scenes in one take, the way Astaire would have done them.
Holland first announced in 2021 that he would portray Fred Astaire in a Sony Pictures film directed by Paul King and written by Steven Levenson. The project is being produced by Amy Pascal, who also oversees the Spider-Man franchise, according to E! News.
