Footage from Timbaland’s performance at the Łódz Summer Festival in Poland has gone viral after he delivered only the backing vocal parts he sings on Nelly Furtado’s “Say It Right,” according to NME.
The producer played the 2006 hit during his July 25 set and, with Furtado not on stage, sang the repeated “EH” sounds that make up his contribution to the track. Social media users quickly responded with jokes and praise.
One Instagram user joked, “Crazy that he still remembers all his lines,” while others compared his vocals to birds outside a window or wondered whether a sound check had been done to keep him in key. Some commenters called the moment impressive and said his part was a key detail in the song’s production.
Timbaland co-produced “Say It Right” with Nate “Danja” Hills for Furtado’s album Loose. The song became her second U.S. No. 1 single and was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammys, where it lost to Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab.”
