The Weeknd has suggested he is no longer planning to retire his stage name, telling fans at a recent show that he will “never disappear,” according to NME.
Abel Tesfaye, who has performed as The Weeknd since 2011, had previously said his 2025 album Hurry Up Tomorrow would be his final release under the name. He described the persona as something he had already mastered and said he wanted to move on from that chapter.
In earlier comments, Tesfaye said he did not want to stay in the role too long and compared it to ending a party before it goes on too far. He also stressed at the time that he was not quitting music entirely.
But while performing on his current tour, Tesfaye told the audience in Stockholm, “I’ll never disappear,” adding that he had “tested retirement a little bit” and did not like the feeling. The Weeknd is currently on the European leg of his After Hours Til Dawn tour, which continues with upcoming dates in the UK, Ireland and later Asia.
