The Rolling Stones have matched The Beatles by earning their 15th UK number one album, according to NME. Their new record, Foreign Tongues, went straight to the top of the Official Albums Chart.
The band’s 25th studio album was released on July 10 and reached number one in the chart announced on July 17. It equals the success of their previous album, 2023’s Hackney Diamonds.
With the latest chart-topper, the Stones now sit joint second on the all-time UK number one albums list with The Beatles. Robbie Williams remains ahead of them with 16, after his album BRITPOP became his 16th solo chart-topper in January.
Foreign Tongues includes guest appearances from Paul McCartney, Robert Smith of The Cure, Steve Winwood and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. It also features Charlie Watts on one of his final recording sessions before his death in 2021.
The band marked the album’s release with a launch party in London earlier this month and have also launched a six-part podcast, Speaking In Tongues, to accompany the record.
