The Olivia Tremor Control are returning with their first new album in 27 years, according to Stereogum. The band’s new double album, The Same Place, is set for release this fall.
The lo-fi psychedelic pop group was a major part of Athens, Georgia’s Elephant 6 collective in the 1990s. They released two albums, 1996’s Dusk At Cubist Castle and 1999’s Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume One, before breaking up.
After reunion shows in later years, the band faced losses with the deaths of co-leaders Bill Doss in 2012 and Will Cullen Hart in 2024. Stereogum reports that the surviving members completed The Same Place using notes left behind by Hart.
The project was finished with help from fellow Elephant 6 musicians and producers Derek Almstead, Jason NeSmith, and Ron Kwasman. The 27-track album includes the songs “The Same Place” and “Garden Of Light,” which were released the same day the news of Hart’s death became public.
The Same Place is due out October 23 on the Elephant 6 Recording Company.
