The Cure have announced that Simon Gallup’s son, Eden Gallup, is playing bass for the band on tour while Simon recovers from illness, according to NME.
The update came after fans noticed Simon was missing from the band’s first Berlin show on Friday, July 10, with Eden taking his place during the performance.
The band also dedicated “Lullaby,” the first song of the encore, to Simon. Later, Robert Smith explained on Instagram that Simon had fallen ill shortly before the first of the group’s three shows at Berlin’s Wuhlheide.
Smith said Simon was still “not well enough to play,” and that Eden would cover bass again for the next concert. He also sent well-wishes to the longtime bassist and thanked Eden for stepping in.
