A Texas family is calling their pet goose a hero after he alerted them to a fire in their barn, according to UPI Odd News.
Fort Bend County resident Bert Gerber said he was asleep in front of the TV last week when Goosey’s loud honking woke him up. Home security cameras captured the goose honking as flames broke out behind the family’s home.
Gerber told KHOU-TV that he stepped outside, saw the fire billowing from the barn, and grabbed a water hose to put out the flames. He said he was able to extinguish the fire.
The animals inside the barn escaped unharmed, and Gerber and his wife, Chelsea, said the situation could have ended much worse without Goosey’s warning. The couple said their daughter, Elaine, was the one who urged them to bring Goosey home in May.
