Stella Lefty, who grew up in the Chicago suburbs, has been attending Lollapalooza every summer since she was 15. This year is different, though, because she is performing at the festival for the first time, and she told Rolling Stone that the experience has felt a little strange.
Lefty said Lollapalooza remains her favorite festival because of its atmosphere and the freedom she sees among the crowd. She also took part in Rolling Stone’s Song Shuffle series, which put her listening habits under the spotlight.
During the segment, Lefty said Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog” was the first track to come up, followed by Fleetwood Mac’s “Silver Springs.” She said Stevie Nicks has been liberating to her as an artist, and she also pointed to SZA’s “Drew Barrymore” as a song that feels especially relatable.
Lefty also mentioned songs by Calvin Harris, Thomas Rhett and Justin Bieber with Chance the Rapper, and named Audrey Hobert, Jordan Davis, Luke Combs and early Taylor Swift as current favorites. Her own song “Boston,” which is No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, is set to appear on her debut album, Long Way Home, due Aug. 21, according to Rolling Stone.
As for festival advice, Lefty told Rolling Stone not to attend Lollapalooza with someone you have only been dating for a month and to avoid uncomfortable shoes. Her top recommendations are to go with your best friends and make sure you see your favorite artist.
