Alia Shawkat is setting the record straight about longtime rumors linking her to Brad Pitt. On the Aug. 16 episode of Watch What Happens Live, the Arrested Development alum told host Andy Cohen that Pitt is “just my friend,” according to E! News.
Shawkat said the two met through Spike Jonze and became friends after connecting over art. She noted that while the pairing may have seemed glamorous to some, their relationship never turned romantic.
The rumors began in November 2019 when Shawkat and Pitt were seen together at the L.A. on Fire art exhibition in Los Angeles. Speculation picked up again in 2020 after they were spotted at a Thundercat show and later at an In-N-Out outing.
Shawkat said people were quick to assume they were dating, adding that even Pitt’s mother had been among those who thought so. She also recalled her grandmother treating the rumors as a major moment, including saving a tabloid cover that featured the two of them.
