“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” remained in first place at the North American box office for a third straight weekend, according to studio estimates reported by ABC News. The Sony Pictures release earned another $70 million in the U.S. and Canada, lifting its domestic total to $785.8 million.
That performance makes the film the fourth-biggest domestic release ever. It has also crossed $2 billion worldwide after adding $118.7 million from overseas markets, becoming only the eighth movie to reach that mark and the second-fastest to do so, behind “Avengers: Endgame.”
“The Odyssey” held onto second place in its fifth weekend with $23.2 million, bringing its domestic total to $504.7 million. Internationally, the Christopher Nolan film has now taken in $98 million, including $36.6 million from its first days in China, for a global total of more than $1.2 billion.
Two dinosaur-themed newcomers, “The End of Oak Street” and “Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie,” battled for third place. Studio estimates gave the edge to “The End of Oak Street” with about $21 million, just ahead of the animated “Paw Patrol” film at $20.5 million.
Several other new releases also landed in the top 10, including “Katseye: Wild Hearts,” “Six: The Musical Live,” “The Brink of War,” and “Vishwanath & Sons.” ABC News reported that the summer box office has topped $4.2 billion so far, leaving the season about 5.7% ahead of summer 2019.
