Phoebe Bridgers has explained why her new album Lost Weekend took so long to finish, saying she kept booking studio time and then delaying the work. Speaking at a fan Q&A in Glendale, California, she said she knew she wanted time away after Punisher, but did not expect the break to last as long as it did.
“I didn’t love all parts of being away,” Bridgers said, according to NME via Variety. She added that she really wanted to make something, but would go into the studio, take months off, and then come back again. “So this album took forever,” she said.
Bridgers released Lost Weekend on Friday, ending a six-year wait for a solo album following Punisher in 2020. She shared the record with fans at a rollerskating listening party at the Moonlight Rollerway and said she wanted the release campaign to feel like it was happening in real life.
The album includes contributions from Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, along with Conor Oberst, Bo Burnham, Jack Antonoff, Alex G and others. Bridgers is set to begin a run of phone-free UK shows at London’s Union Chapel, followed by dates in Kingston, Brighton and Bristol, before The Lost Tour moves to North America next month.
