Southern Dunes clubhouse project remains on schedule for spring 2027 opening

Construction is continuing at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club, where a new clubhouse is taking shape as part of a more than $20 million project, according to InMaricopa. The work remains on schedule following a February groundbreaking, with a soft opening expected in spring 2027.

General Manager Brady Wilson said the club had simply outgrown its current building. The new clubhouse is set to nearly double in size, expanding from about 11,300 square feet to 23,600 square feet.

Wilson told InMaricopa the club is aiming for a soft opening in April 2027 so the facility will be ready before Arizona State hosts the NCAA Regional tournament at Southern Dunes in May. A grand opening would follow later, after construction is finished and weather allows landscaping and outdoor features to be completed.

Several additions are planned for the property, including a 7,600-square-foot putting green expected to open in September. The project also includes a new halfway house called Freddy’s Turn, named for course designer and pro golfer Fred Couples, along with expanded banquet space, a ballroom, private dining areas and a new food hall and sports bar.

Southern Dunes is also building a separate staff facility for training, breaks and offices. In the meantime, golfers are using a temporary clubhouse while crews continue work on the permanent replacement.
