Bay Area duo Sour Widows have announced their sophomore album, Sigil, according to Pitchfork. The record was produced by Jay Som’s Melina Duterte and is set for release on October 23 via Julia’s War.
The album’s lead single is “Blood in the Grass,” a song written by Susanna Thomson for Maya Bon of Babehoven. Sour Widows also shared a found footage-style video for the track, directed by Thomson and bandmate Maia Sinaiko.
In a statement, Thomson said the song explores fate, family, and finding shelter in one another during spiritual and physical hardship. She added that the track is rooted in the natural world and vulnerability.
Sigil follows Sour Widows’ 2024 debut full-length, Revival of a Friend. The band will support the album with North American shows alongside Squirrel Flower this fall, including a November 1 stop at Valley Bar in Phoenix.
