Tommy Iommi, best known as the guitarist for Black Sabbath, has announced his first proper solo album in 21 years. The new release, From the Dark, follows his 2005 solo effort Fused, according to Pitchfork.
Iommi co-wrote the album with Norwegian metal vocalist Jørn Lande and co-produced it with longtime collaborator Mike Exeter. Queen guitarist Brian May also appears on the record with a guest solo on “Death Wake.”
The album is set for release on October 23 through BMG. Along with the announcement, Iommi shared the music video for the first single, “World Alone.”
In a statement, Iommi said the project was something he and his collaborators enjoyed making and added that they were not trying to prove anything. He also spoke to Rolling Stone about the album and life without Ozzy Osbourne, saying it has felt strange and that he misses their many conversations.
