Shirley MacLaine made a rare video appearance this week to help promote an upcoming screening of her 1969 film Sweet Charity at the Southampton Playhouse, according to E! News.
In the message, shared to the New York theater’s Instagram account on Aug. 17, the 92-year-old said she wished she could attend in person and encouraged viewers to enjoy the movie. She also joked that the film “didn’t do very well” at the box office, while hoping the audience would like it.
MacLaine appeared upbeat in the clip, wearing her signature oversized glasses with a red vest and blue long-sleeved shirt. The actress has largely stayed out of the public eye over the past year, aside from an occasional lunch outing in Malibu.
Her last major public appearance was in December, when she was honored at the inaugural Dance Hall of Fame ceremony alongside Twyla Tharp, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Kenny Ortega, according to E! News. At the event, MacLaine said dance has played a major role in keeping her energized and youthful.
