Sandra Bullock says her two children understood the seriousness of Bryan Randall’s ALS diagnosis before he died in 2023, according to E! News.
On the Aug. 17 episode of the SmartLess podcast, Bullock said she was dealing with her son Louis, 16, and daughter Laila, 12, at the same time Randall was privately battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. She said her daughter saw Randall as a father figure, making the situation especially difficult for her.
Bullock also described a different response from her son, saying he recognized the situation was not healthy for him to be around and chose to step back while still helping where he could. She said she did not want him to take on adult responsibilities during that time.
The actress said Randall asked her not to share his diagnosis publicly, which made her feel isolated while raising young children during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bullock said she eventually leaned on a few close friends, including Jennifer Aniston and Amanda Anka Bateman, and described that moment of opening up as a relief.
