Russell Westbrook has announced he is retiring from the NBA after 18 seasons, according to E! News. The 37-year-old made the announcement in an Aug. 12 video narrated by Michael B. Jordan.
Westbrook, who became known for his years with the Oklahoma City Thunder, reflected on his career in the short film titled “The Museum of Unspoken Answers.” The video highlighted several of his accomplishments, including his 2017 MVP award, his 2012 Olympic medal in London and his place atop the NBA record books for triple-doubles.
In the video’s closing message, Westbrook’s legacy was described as something that “couldn’t fit inside a museum,” a reference to the impact he left on the game even without winning an NBA championship. The message emphasized that his influence went beyond statistics and trophies.
Jordan also suggested Westbrook may already have his next chapter planned, saying in the narration, “This swing isn’t finished, and neither is he.” Westbrook has also worked on documentaries and launched the streetwear brand Honor the Gift.
