Dubstep producer and DJ Rusko has announced that he is taking an indefinite break from music and touring, saying it became clear he was experiencing a mental health breakdown, according to NME.
In a statement shared on social media, the UK artist said he had ignored his brain and body for too long before reaching a serious breaking point. He said he could not continue in the same way and needed to step away from the business for the foreseeable future.
Rusko apologized to fans for being unable to play his scheduled shows and thanked them for their support over the years. He added that, for now, his focus has to be on healing and recovery, and said he cannot promise any kind of return.
The producer previously stepped back from music in 2017 after revealing he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer and was undergoing treatment. His later announcement that year confirmed the treatment had worked and that he was cancer-free.
Rusko rose to prominence in 2007 and released his first solo album, O.M.G., in 2010, followed by Songs in 2012. His most recent release was the track “Professor X” with Marco Strous in March.
