Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas accidentally hit bandmate Paul Doucette in the head with a mic stand during a performance in Springfield, Illinois, according to Stereogum.
The moment happened at the Illinois State Fair while the band was playing “Bent” from their 2000 album Mad Season. Doucette, who plays drums, rhythm guitar and sings backing vocals, was on guitar when he was struck and then left the stage.
Thomas apologized to Doucette in front of the audience after the incident, saying he was sorry and would keep apologizing for the rest of the month.
Doucette later shared a video showing bits of his in-ear monitor being removed from his ear, and said Thomas had “smashed” it during the show. Despite the mishap, Doucette appeared to take the incident in stride.
