Razorlight have released an unheard early version of their 2006 hit “America” as they prepare a 20th anniversary edition of their self-titled second album, according to NME. The demo, titled “Lost In America,” offers an earlier, looser take on the song that later became a UK No. 1 single.
Johnny Borrell said the track was the first version the band recorded and that they tried to pitch it to other artists through their publishers, but there was no interest. He said he loved it at the time, while also feeling it was a little too safe for Razorlight.
The new anniversary release will also include the B-side “Wilfred Owen,” which is already available on streaming platforms ahead of the full package. A release date for the deluxe edition has not yet been announced.
To celebrate the album’s milestone, Razorlight are set to tour the UK and Europe this autumn with their four classic members performing the record in full. The run begins in Stockholm on October 23 and includes dates in cities such as Paris, Amsterdam, Glasgow, Manchester and London, before wrapping up with shows in Belfast and Dublin in December.
Borrell told NME last month that the band is in a strong place musically and excited for the upcoming shows, even if the travel side of touring can be a challenge. He also said the white skinny jeans he wore during that era were “pretty integral” to the time.
