Madonna has returned to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for the first time this decade, as Confessions II opened at the top of the chart, according to Rolling Stone.
The album arrived more than 20 years after Confessions on a Dance Floor also debuted at No. 1. Confessions II moved 134,000 equivalent albums in its first week, marking Madonna’s first album chart topper of the 2020s.
With this release, Madonna has now earned 10 No. 1 albums, beginning with 1984’s Like a Virgin. Billboard notes that she is the only artist to have at least one No. 1 album in the 1980s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s.
Billboard also says Madonna became just the fourth artist to reach 10 No. 1s on both the Billboard 200 and the Hot 100. The others are the Beatles, Taylor Swift, and Drake.
Rolling Stone also praised the album, with the publication calling Confessions II Madonna’s best album in 20 years.
