Police say covered camera and pry marks point to break-in attempt

Police say a woman reported a man trying to break into her home on Sept. 17 around 12:15 p.m. at a house off Gunsmoke Road, according to InMaricopa.

Officers found Errol W. Morris, 37, walking out of the backyard through a gate with two screwdrivers in his pocket, according to a probable cause statement.

When police asked why he was there, Morris said he was trying to get his documents that the woman had been holding onto for him. The report said the two had been “talking,” but he did not have permission to be on her property.

According to the probable cause statement, a small bucket had been placed over a backyard camera to keep it from recording, and there were pry marks on the back sliding glass door that appeared consistent with an attempt to force it open. Morris was arrested on suspicion of burglary, criminal trespass and criminal damage and booked into Pinal County Jail.
