The Eta Epsilon Chapter of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority Inc. is bringing its “Mammograms & Mocktails” event back to Maricopa this Saturday for a second year, according to InMaricopa.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Duke’s Roadhouse, 19395 N. John Wayne Parkway. The sorority is partnering with SimonMed to offer 16 free mammogram appointments.
SimonMed’s mobile mammography unit will provide the screenings through grant funding. After their appointments, attendees can enjoy mocktails, snacks and time with sorority members.
Lashanda Brown, president of the Eta Epsilon Chapter, said she created the event after attending a Phoenix gathering that paired breast exams with drinks. Because her sorority does not serve alcohol, she adapted the idea into “Mammograms & Mocktails.”
Brown said the event also has personal meaning for her after losing a friend to breast cancer in 2014. Appointments are first-come, first-served and require registration, according to InMaricopa.
