Phish set a new bustout record with XTC cover at Fenway Park

Phish set a new personal record on Friday night at Boston’s Fenway Park by covering XTC’s “Melt The Guns,” according to Stereogum. It was the first time the band had played the song since April 29, 1987.

The return of the song marks the biggest bustout in Phish history, meaning it had been absent from the setlist longer than any other song they have brought back. The performance came during the band’s July 31 show in Boston.

Phish had just broken its previous bustout record last week with a cover of Foreigner’s “Cold As Ice” at Madison Square Garden in New York City. That song returned after a gap of 1,469 shows, according to Stereogum.

The version of “Melt The Guns” reportedly ran for about 15 minutes, and Trey Anastasio played percussion in the middle of the performance. Clips of the song were shared online after the show.
