Singer-songwriter Nicole Atkins has released a new song titled “Singing In the Mirror,” according to Stereogum. The Nashville-based artist is preparing to put out her upcoming album Drama.
The track follows the album’s first single, “When The Night Falls,” and leans into an ’80s-inspired synth sound. Stereogum described it as a large, energetic pop-rock song with a strong classic feel.
Pat Sansone of Wilco produced the album, which will be released through Chris Isaak’s new Sun Records imprint, Wicked Game. Atkins has earned respect from fellow musicians over the years even if she is not widely known to the general public.
According to Atkins, the song came together after she returned home from a “Weird Al” Yankovic concert and found herself crying while looking in the mirror. She said she recorded the demo quickly and kept the original slow disco beat from an Omnicord for the final version.
