Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds surprised fans in Brighton on Friday with an impromptu rooftop performance at Resident Records, according to NME. The pop-up set came before the band’s larger homecoming show later that night at Preston Park.
The group has been marking its return to the city with a series of fan activities, including treasure hunts and exclusive merch and records at Resident. Word spread quickly that the band would appear on the roof, drawing a crowd to the street below in the morning sun.
Cave opened the set by greeting the audience with a shout-out to Brighton before the band launched into a stripped-back four-song performance. The set included “Train Long-Suffering,” a cover of T. Rex’s “Cosmic Dancer,” “Henry Lee,” and “Papa Won’t Leave You, Henry,” with Janet Ramus taking PJ Harvey’s part on “Henry Lee,” according to NME.
The Preston Park concert is a UK-exclusive show and is part of the band’s run supporting their 2024 album Wild God. It follows their performance at Dublin’s Malahide Castle last month, where they covered The Pogues’ “A Rainy Night In Soho.”
