Workers at a FedEx store in Memphis, Tennessee, got an unexpected scare when a large iguana suddenly broke free from its box and ran through the store, according to UPI Odd News.
Roderick Duncan had gone to the store to pick up his new pet iguana, and employees asked to see what was inside a box marked “live animal.” A video from the scene shows Duncan opening the box and starting to remove the lizard from a bag before it darted away behind the counter.
Duncan told WMC-TV that the iguana was much bigger than he expected and that he was surprised when it took off running. He said he might have been able to catch it, but the sudden escape startled him, too.
Duncan said the iguana, named Titan, had seemed likely to play dead when handled, but instead it was ready to bolt. A FedEx worker used boxes to form a barrier so Duncan could corner the animal and pick it up, and Duncan later thanked the employees for being good sports, according to CBC News.
