New 'Come to Brasil' documentary explores the power of Brazilian music fans

A new documentary called Come to Brasil uses the popular internet phrase “Come to Brasil” as its starting point to explore the energy and influence of Brazilian music fans, according to Billboard.

The 22-minute film was shot in Rio de Janeiro and is a co-production between Los Angeles-based Discordia and Brazil-based Cosmocine. It follows four superfans and looks at how generations of Brazilians have formed communities around international artists.

Billboard reports that the documentary highlights fandoms connected to artists including Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Madonna. It also shows how those groups have helped make Brazil one of the world’s most engaged music markets.

Director and producer Lina Abascal said the project was meant to humanize a community that is often misunderstood. She said the film is about community and about showing the people behind a fandom that often includes women and LGBTQIA+ fans.

The documentary is presented by Discordia and Cosmocine in association with Rolling Stone Films, XTR and Documentary+. Abascal previously directed the award-winning short Stud Country, which appeared in the LA Times Short Docs series in 2024.
