Moby used a recent live performance to praise the UK’s influence on rave culture, according to NME. The electronic music star made the comments during his headline set at On The Beach Festival, which closed the 2026 edition of the event and marked his first major appearance there in nearly 25 years.
During the show, Moby performed a string of fan favourites, including “We Are All Made of Stars,” “Extreme Ways,” “Porcelain” and “Natural Blues.” He ended the set with his 1994 track “Feeling So Real.”
Before the final song, Moby told the crowd he had been fascinated by British culture from a young age and said his love of music grew after discovering UK acts such as the Sex Pistols, The Clash, Public Image, Joy Division and Echo and the Bunnymen. He said those artists helped shape his view of music and the scene that followed.
Moby also credited British DJs and producers including Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling, Pete Tong and Carl Cox with helping to create rave culture. He said he first came to the UK in 1990 and 1991, and recalled playing his first rave, Rain Dance, in 1991 to a crowd of 10,000 joyful fans.
He dedicated his closing song to “the spirit of rave culture” that he said the UK invented and has kept alive since the 1990s. Moby has spoken about his admiration for British music before, including in a 2023 interview with NME.
