Moby performed a live cover of the Father Ted song ‘My Lovely Horse’ during a show in Dublin this week, according to NME.
The electronic artist played at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham on August 21 and slipped the comedy favourite into the end of his set. Before singing it, he told the audience, “If you need a new national anthem, may I suggest this song?”
‘My Lovely Horse’ appears in the Father Ted episode ‘A Song For Europe’, where Ted and Dougal try to represent Ireland in a fictional Eurosong contest and end up with “nul points.” The song was written by Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy with Father Ted creators Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews.
This was not the first time Moby had played the song live. NME reports that he also performed it in 2001 at Slane Castle, where Father Dougal actor Ardal O’Hanlon was in the crowd.
