King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard surprised fans at their Saturday night show in Queens by bringing out Max Weinberg, according to Rolling Stone.
The appearance came one week after Max’s son, former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg, joined the Australian band onstage. Joey Walker told the crowd the group had hoped to invite Jay back, but said he was busy in Nashville and had called his father instead.
Walker introduced Max Weinberg as having made the trip from Atlantic City to play with the band. The longtime drummer for Bruce Springsteen and Conan O’Brien then came onstage with sticks in hand.
Weinberg joined King Gizzard as a second drummer for an extended version of “Hot Water.” The band’s Forest Hills Stadium run wraps up Saturday night before they head to Brooklyn for a show at Under the K Bridge Park on Sunday.
